This glossary was compiled by Matjaž Kuntner and Michael Malia in 2002 while studying systematics and evolution at the George Washington University, and was updated in 2006 by M. Kuntner.

Published online to help the students of systematics and evolution, this glossary is also available as Excel file on request. The glossary contents are not peer reviewed or checked for accuracy before e-publishing. For more in depth inquiries, please use primary literature and/or textbooks.

The glossary follows Excel format. The terms are listed in three spreadsheets (Phylogenetics, Evolution and Taxonomy), organized alphabetically by subject (e.g., analysis, results, etc.), then listed alphabetically. We provide a brief explanation of each term with a reference to primary sources or recent reviews. The in-text citations are not fully referenced and are merely there to facilitate literature search. The taxonomic terms are biased towards zoology but will be made broader in the future versions.
